“That’s the thing about pain. It demands to be felt.”— - The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
There are still days that I wake up missing him a lot and I just feel so stupid for letting myself even feel like that.
I told a friend, who reminded me not to because of all the pain. Reminded me that I left to survive.
But now, I just feel sad and stupid. 😟
It’s driving me crazy that your heart can really miss someone who wishing you nothing but harm…
Imagine trusting someone for almost your whole life to find out that it was all waste of time. I really thought I understood hurt before this. I don’t want to anymore. I see why some people don’t ever trust or love again.
“There are studies that show that fiction in particular builds empathy—that when you read about characters who don’t look or live like you, you begin to understand them a little bit better. You understand what makes you similar and how vast the differences are, and it helps you to be a little bit more compassionate toward people who are different from you. Right now it seems like—not just in America, but around the world—we need a little more empathy.”
—Gene Luen Yang, in the March/April issue of Poets & Writers Magazine (2017)
